I first met Claire, owner of the plus size indie brand Copper Union, over Instagram. Since our initial magical discussion I swore we were kindred spirits. Even more bizarre- her best friend from college works at my office. Like a real, not interwebs, life connection. It’s a sign from the universe! Interstellar signs people! Sparkles. Space Magic. Booming voice of omni-powerful being. One cannot ignore them. IMG_3170So Claire sent me a few pieces to try out. Naturally I loved them, but I felt getting clothes from a kindred spirit and just writing a blog is keeping things a bit too close to the chest. If we really are Anne of Green Gables bosom buddies, we should try to change the world together. Because, that’s just what you do. Girl power and all that stuff.

IMG_3173 When Claire and I started scheming it was clear we were on the same page. Let’s do something fun to make people happier. And thus the concept of #CopperGlitter was born. A giveaway, where everyone wins a little bit by participating, and one lucky unicorn/ feminine warrior/ human who appreciates pretty things will have a little extra fashion magic added to their life.

IMG_3185So what’s this #CopperGlitter thing all about? We want to know what makes you body positive. What do you love about yourself, how do you celebrate your amazing body everyday? Claire and I use clothing to highlight not hide our bodies. We want to encourage you to do the same. Tell us why you love your curves, your lumps and bumps, your ‘imperfections’!

How to Enter:
1. Share a photo on Instagram and tell us why you, love you.
2. Follow and tag @glitterandlazers and @copperunion
3. Use the hashtag #copperglitter
We will pick a winner on June 1. You will receive an awesome Stevie Shrug from Copper Union + a special super custom surprise from moi. We can’t wait to see your body love! Good luck!

IMG_3189If you’re curious what a Stevie Shrug looks like, just look up. This is the Copper Union Black & White Geo Stevie Shrug paired with Nika Pencil Skirt (you can’t tell from the photo but it has this cool baroque-ish pattern detail that I am obsessed with). I paired these amazing Copper Union pieces with a few  oldie but goodie items I just love. A pair of lace up marble faux snake skin shoes from ASOS, a forever 21 tribal bodycon crop top, and few necklaces I picked up on clearance from Charming Charlie really bring this look to life. The top necklace is another amazing one of Claire’s Copper Union designs that unfortunately is no longer available.

Plus size tshirt Ruby + Lilli So I am a sucker for anything that is sequined and sparkly, so it should come as no surprise that I squealed with delight when Ruby + Lilli sent me this amazing plus size T-shirt all the way from Australia. I have used this as an excuse to say shrimp on the barbie 3 times today; listen the shirt demanded it. I just listened. Plus size tee Ruby and LilliI feel like today’s outfit was really inspire by my friend Laura who has basically made her career being a cool as all get out tomboy. She works for a global shoe brand. She has done karaoke at celebrities houses. She isn’t a stuck up jerk face. Basically, I want to be her. She’s the type of girl who rocks baggy t-shirts and track pants and still looks like she’s just stepped out cloud of conveniently placed, celebrity alluding fog. As much of a tomboy as I am, no magic fog has ever appeared when I put on a oversized sweatshirt and house pants.

Plus Size Fashion LeatherSo this is a nod to style I love, but just doesn’t suit me. Like “hello I see you there, lookin’ all cute. I am going to put your thing down flip it an reverse it.” Pairing this t-shirt with something edgy and original was essential, and this funky, faux leather skirt from Eloquii, was a perfect match. PS said skirt is on super clearance right now. No one paid me to say this, but this thing is a boss ass bitch essential and totally worth $24 sale price.  This skirt and tee are styled with Sam Edelman cow hide flats, a vintage Ralph Lauren scarf, and collection of bangles and wrist baubles from my travels.

Plus size tshirt Ruby + Lilli

I should note, I’ve really enjoy the spirit of this shirt. It feels girly and at the same time low key and nonchalant. That’s a hard line to walk. I feel like I could easily put this under a blazer and rock it at a meeting; the writing is subtle enough to be both work appropriate and fabulous.Plus Size Fashion Ideas I also just appreciate the blessing that is a really soft t-shirt. The kind you don’t have to wear in. The kind you don’t have to go Edward Scissor Hands on to feel like a woman while wearing it. Comfort, what a novel concept.

Plus Size Fashion Ideas

Also it goes without saying, I really enjoy brands that unabashedly cater to a broader array of sizes. It’s not an easy thing to do so I applaud Ruby & Lilli for making options for lots of women, versus just a small percentage. We appreciate it, especially when you’re get it oh so so right.

SmartGlamour Plus Size Fashion
SmartGlamour contacted me a few weeks ago and asked me if I’d like to try out one of their made to fit, body positive looks. I was little hesitant because I had a company reach out to me with a similar pitch before and honestly it was so stressful and so much work to actually get “my sizing” I gave up and walked away.
SmartGlamour Plus Size Fashion
It’s often hard for companies who make clothing for smaller bodies to just start creating plus size clothing- especially custom fit types. A friend of mine who is a pattern maker once explained to me how hard the process of fitting plus clothes are. After a size 6-8 there is no uniform way the body holds weight, and it gets even more snowflake-like the larger you go.  Truly, no plus size body is the same. Hence why most uber fancy designer brands only go up to a 10-12, they’re keeping their fit costs low. SmartGlamour Plus Size Fashion
That’s why brands like SmartGlamour, who understand plus bodies and make custom clothing are important. I walked into the situation expecting a nightmare and instead got a pretty dream like experience. They even put up with my constant “can we make this, in this fabric?” back and forth. And rather than a straight “no,” they explained why certain fabrics worked better for certain cuts. I LEARNED from them. Bonus.SmartGlamour Plus Size Fashion
The look we settled on perfectly suits me. It’s the dreamy neon floral that I was insistent on, but in a cut that’s more flattering for the fabric and me. In short, SmartGlamour’s expertise paid off. SmartGlamour Plus Size Fashion
If you’re ready to take the plunge into custom fit clothing, I would give SmartGlamour a try, but with one caveat. Custom clothing only works if you are honest about your body. So if you’re not ready to send a stranger your measurements and talk openly about works for your body type, its not the right path to pursue.

SmartGlamour Plus Size FashionThat said, if you open up and give it a go the result will be a unique piece, that suits you perfectly. Which is something you just can’t find in a retail store.  I feel sassy and special rocking this neon floral look paired with my favorite vintage shades, antique button earrings, and my trusty red New Look pumps. Red lip is my go to shade of rouge, Beso All Day Liquid Lipstick by Stila Cosmetics.

Plus Size Swimwear Fatkini Rue 107
So I had been online stalking Rue 107 for awhile and hemming hawing over buying something. Then two weeks ago, doing my standard plus size fashion scan,  my shopping finger basically went into spasms. This suit, it had to be mine. It’s unlike any other swimsuit I have ever seen. It’s sporty and sexy. It’s surprisingly full coverage and it shows a bit of salacious skin. I had no choice I had to buy it.
Plus Size Swimwear Fatkini Rue 107One thing I always admired about this brand suits is how easily the tops double as well, tops. I mean here I am rocking a brunch outfit, that’s really just a swimsuit with a sporty white skirt thrown over it. And I look good, damn good.
Plus Size Swimwear Fatkini Rue 107Chuck that skirt to the side, and blamo, sex pot swimsuit of the century. It may be just me, but I believe anything tied with a bow has this naughty little under tone. Unravel that bow, sexy foreign man. It’s go time. Easy access, fashionista style. But,  I double knotted these ties, there shall be no accidental strip show. Nope. Nope. Standards shall be maintained.
Plus Size Swimwear Fatkini Rue 107
I’ll just be over hear alluding to your sexual fantasy. But definitely not participating. I’m a good girl after all.Now I am just going to swim off all the allusions I have just made. Chilling out and looking oh so so so fine. Triple snap, hip sashay and hair flip.

Torrid_Her_Universe_Star_Wars_front_viewTo anyone who knows me proper, it’s hardly a surprise how big a geek I am. I can’t get off trying to be cool when I spend a lot of my money one inflatables, light up shoes, and bizarre things I find on the internet and want to tinker with. Actually “a tinkerer” might be the most accurate depiction of who I am. So given my geek status, it should be obvious… anything Star Wars. I am in. Sign me up. Take all my money. Gimmee. Gimme. Grabby hands. This was exactly my reaction when I saw the new Torrid/Her Universe Star Wars collection. I had to have it.
Torrid_Her_Universe_Star_Wars_side_viewBut I was broke.THANKS, VACATION. Like beyond broke. Like considering checking “Perform musical numbers on a public place for pocket change,” off my life list, broke. Like googling how to become a model for the people who get off on just seeing sexy feet – just the feet- crushing things (it’s a thing, for reals) broke. Like I wonder how much people would pay for my kidney, broke. I could go on… but I think you get the picture. And everyone and there brother was linking me to the product page, being all like ” OMG this is so you.” “You would look rad in this.” “These were made for you, girl.” I KNOW THEY WERE.Torrid_Her_Universe_Star_Wars_sexy_plussizeSo while I was trying to capture my feet crushing grapes in just the right sunlight, while simultaneously checking for responses to my kidney for sale add in the “creepy things for sale section” on craigslist…. a miracle happened. Torrid’s PR team agreed to send me a few pieces to style. And I seriously did a happy dance. Especially since the vacation I had spent a ton of money on had given me serious food poisoning.
Torrid_Her_Universe_Star_Wars_plussizeAnd I am obsessed with what they send me. I’ve always been partial to dressing up as villains because I just feel like a sexy bad ass. Plus its kind of an adventure out of myself. I’m a good girl…. gone mother trucking galactic warring bad. In the Phasma inspired jacket and leggings, I was not just any sexy interstellar bad ass, I am the mother trucking queen of bad asses.[insert line about how she should have had a larger role in the film]Torrid_Her_Universe_Star_Wars_back_viewAnd a storm trooper dress? LOVE IT. Who knew being a war sheep, could be so darn cute. In my mind storm troopers are sort of brain washed individuals, who fight based on their upbringing and surrounding rather then out of understood hate. That’s my sociology background rearing it’s head. Or maybe I just wanted an excuse as to why I chose to make this styling a bit innocent. Well as innocent as one can make an outfit paired with patent leather platform lace up drag queen boots. BONUS- the dress has pockets!!

OOTD: Business Fringe

Jessica London Plus Size 8I’ve been working very very hard at teaching Data how to stand on his back legs on command, and the pooch is nailing it.  I had to kick off this adorable post with a little puppy love; I had to. You know what else I love? This Full Beauty look. All of it. I look 100% profesh, while at the same time wearing fancy fringe. Obsessed.

Jessica London Plus Size 7I am really feeling the waterfall detailing of the jacket. I think it makes it 100% more special then your typical leather western jacket. It’s more “downtown Austin cocktails “and less “I plan to ride a sheep tonight”. Not that there is anything wrong with sheep rides, just not a fashion aesthetic one aspires too.  No one wants to be stopped on the street and asked ” Where did you get the jacket? It looks perfect for sheep riding!”

Jessica London Plus Size 4

From the back the fringe is more noticeable. I am glad it’s not over the top. I also don’t want to look like one of those car cleaner spinny things that buff your vehicle during a cleaning. Fringe is something you really have to make sure is balanced. Jessica London Plus Size 5But you need to have enough that like your hair, the tassels catch the wind. Shimmy shimmy shimmy little rm fringe. Movement, it’s why you exist.

Jessica London Plus Size 2Excuse me while I dramatically remove this coat to show you the goodies underneath.

Jessica London Plus Size 3I’m in Lemon chiffon heaven with this tank. With the royal blue the contrast, it’s just lovely.  I feel very rich, very french, and very much like a stranger is going to pay for my drinks tonight.

Here’s how you can get this business fringe look for yourself:

I mean look at this yellow against my skin…bananas!!

Jessica London Plus Size 1

Thank you to Jessica London for allowing me to pick these lovely pieces and providing them to me to style.
