I didn’t think an MC Hammer inspired outfit would become one of my favorites; I KNEW its. There’s something about wearing oversized pants and gold lame that really gets my motor running. Plus, it’s like this challenge I accepted and conquered. It’s also led to me running to coworkers desks and occasionally screaming “HAMMER TIME” as I shimmy back and forth with such enthusiasm and gusto that only channeling the original Hammer could do.
This outfit should be a joke. It shouldn’t be taken seriously. It’s so many textures, so many statements, so many conflicting styles. However, that’s exactly why it succeeds; there is an unexpected playfulness that makes a bold impression. This look is the very definition of a fashion statement. I only wish I had been able to capture it on the street, surrounded by the whimsy of the city. Sadly, this look is office bound today.
The quilted jacket is a golden wonder I snagged as a gift from Eloquii. Expect to see this blazer wonder many many more times this season. The pants were an impulse buy from the Monif C clearance section. While this pair is sold out, here’s an alternative I found a Lane Bryant that you could easily add straps to the side for the same affect. The athletic knit crop top is also a bargain buy, bought during a 50% sale, from Fashion to Figure. The shoes are crocs. Mock me now, these things are comfortable AF while looking all kinds of cool.

So today is the official start of Content Marketing World the Conference I am here in Cleveland attending, and the reason I am fixed up and looking sharp. I am resisting the extreme urge to scream “buy buy, sell sell” at random intervals and to sing “Business Time” by Flight of the Conchords.
Today’s look is simple. It’s my favorite dress I’ve ever purchased in my entire life. Internet meet the unicorn of professional dresses, this multi-colored mash-up frock from Eloquii. I love it. I love how it flares out when I twirl. I love all the hues. I love the pleated empire waist. I love that it’s so light weight. I love everything about it. It’s the best.
And people here at the conference seem to think it’s the best too. This is the most in my entire life that strangers have gone out of their way to discuss my dress. Women from all walks, commenting on the daring of my dress, the cool of my chemise, the bow chick a bow WOW of my business attire. I feel like a technicolor goddess.

So since I have to dress very professionally the next few days I thought it would be mucho fun to do a little mini blog series on plus size professional wear thats corporate, but still bananas stylish. Today we kick of the series with a bang by keeping simple while also keeping it bold.
A white blouse is the staple essential in any power bitch’s wardrobe, but that does not mean it has to be boring. This perfect poplin peplum white blouse demands the attention fo the board and the power of the board. The mandarin collar with simply but unique embroidery adds a nice umph to the shirt while also saying I’ve got expensive taste boys. I keep the simple but luxe look going by pairing this amazing top with a sassy stretch pencil skirt, with a modern zipper detail. It says I like to be comfortable and kick ass at the same time. The waffle like texture of the skirt adds interest with out complicating the look with unnecessary details.

If its not already totally apparent I am 100% all over this denim trend. I just want to be comfortable and this style scenario screams just that. So last night while I was meandering down the aisles of Marshall’s, looking a sweaty hot mess with Data in tow, I stopped as gasped when I came across the perfect fancy denim shirt.
It had sparkles and glitter. Well, technically it was bejeweled, bedazzled, had little rhinestones and silver beads sewn into it- whatever you descriptive preference is. It was a dressy take on the age ole denim shirt, making it essentially an “I will battle royale you for ownership” type of shirt.
My ninja reflexes and fashion blood thirstiness only amplified when I saw it was on sale. $10! I love plus shopping, I am pretty sure some skinny girl paid $300 for this exact shirt at J Crew and here its plus size replica is straight up chilling, under valued and in need of a fashion hug from moi. Come to momma, baby. You’re home now.
I got the shirt home and realized instantly why the shirt had been left to rot in the slums of the clearance rack. Dem sleeves were tight, yo. Total sausage fest, but not the fun kind. The arm struggling to circulate kind. In short, not cute. So I cut them off. Bye Bye meat tube arms, hello bare arms and sashay, sashay and snap.
This bejeweled piece of heaven ads and amazingly upscale twist to the denim shirt. Pairing my labor of love with a pair of cute espadrilles, a pair of stretching skinny pants and a few sparkly bobbles creates a modern denim date night look. Too bad I am single. So lets just call this the ultimate ” get drunk by yourself and thwart off advances by creepy older men” look. Meh, look at the bright side, free cocktails.

There’s no doubt in my mind that living in Texas as a plus size woman Texas has reignited my passion for denim. I just want to be clad in a cornucopia of jeans, drizzled in delicious denims, and deck out in dungarees. It’s versatile, comfortable and reliable. So when I saw this season that denim on denim was a trend, I leaped for joy.
This fall denim isn’t just around, it’s rocking the main stage. It’s denim or denim on denim with a touch of denim. I couldn’t be happier. I’ve seen a resurgence of the oversized, zip up denim work suit, pieced denim dresses, and amazingly reconstructed jeans. Gimme Gimme. But as a Texan, I couldn’t be more excited that the Texas tuxedo is really the star of this catwalk trend.
Rocking this trend is pretty simple. Denim pants, denim shirt and a denim jacket are what this honky tonk tuxedo are all about. But to truly nail this look, consider varying the shades of denims you use.
The denims should contrast, the Texas tuxedo is not about being monochromatic. That’s another trend and so last season. So look for denims in a similar color palate. However avoid denims that contrast too much as this can be jarring and make the look lack cohesiveness.
An easy way is to look for the same hue of denim, but in different washes. For example , all three pieces in this look are a light color- except the jeans have a traditional blue wash, the shirt a more modern gray wash, and finally the jacket’s wash has a slight greenish hue to it. Instant contrast baby! Add a pop of color with a bold bandana and you’re ready to bring the rodeo to rodeo drive.

So the 90s were awesome and I 100% support any touches of their style flair Ive seen creeping into fall wardrobes. My personal favorite? Dress over shirts. The easiest of these flourishes to rock being, pairing a summer swing dress over a turtle neck to create an adorable fall look that no one can argue is out of season.
One of the main reasons this looks so fresh is the child like concept making a nod to that saved by the bell fashion favorite, but the more structured layers saying- ” Hold up I’m an adult now. I got this.” Want to make a style flash back? For a more casual look, you can try rocking a more informal variation by wearing ringer t-shirt under a strappy summer sundress.
Another key fall trend is purses you wear.. yup bring back those fanny packs. The trend is actually much larger than just that. Models this season were wearing purses as necklaces, anklets and capes. Many of these bold stunners aren’t practical, but an upscale fanny pack has the right flair to acknowledge this fashion time while at the same time not being too out there or conceptual. This isn’t a trend, but let me give a shout out to brogues. Ladies if you don’t own a pair, you should. This is the one style of shoes I’ve seen endure years of love and always remains relevant. Brogues are darn comfortable, can be a little edgy and just awesome. Invest in a pair, they’re worth it.
Want to rock this look? First explore your closet, that’s what I did. Many of these pieces are items I’ve loved and worn many times before. That said, if you’re in need of a few of these pieces, here’s some items to help you rock this
