#ProjectPossible

I am so so so excited to kick off the first day of my first Instagram challenge!  It isn’t a yoga challenge. This isn’t a fashion challenge. It’s a life challenge! The idea is simple. Take something something that scares you, pushes you, challenges you, makes you uncomfortable or might even seem impossible… and give it a try.  Wear that crop top. Try that head stand. Talk to your manager about that raise you deserve. Stop lying to the food delivery guy, there is no roommate.

And don’t just do it. Do it with gusto. Do it with sass. Do it because none of us should wait to live. It’s time to make the impossible, possible.

One thing I’ve learned over my journey is that the first step is ALWAYS the hardest. We want to encourage you to take that step with some extra sassy motivation and prizes. Because every body loves presents. EVERYBODY.

We have some super rad sponsors:

So how do you enter?

project possible2

You don’t have to post everyday for a chance to win, just at least once during the challenge period – August 15-31. Each new challenge you take on is a new entry. Simples!

Plus Size Disney Looks: Aladdin’s Princess Jasmine

Plus Size Disney Looks: Aladdin’s Princess Jasmine

Plus Size fashion blog Disney Princess Jasmin 2Fun fact, I didn’t actually get to go to the happiest place until college, when my roommates organized an elaborate road trip to the park in California. I suppose this is when i first realized I deeply relate to Aladdin. See  I paid for this entire trip  primarily by cheekily asking strangers if I could borrow a quarter. If people think you’re begging, you’ll be met with an outright “hell no, get a job lazy pants”. However, if you ask to borrow a menial amount- say 25 cents- they will give you the trivial sum, forget they did it, and keep trucking on with their lives. Over time those quarters turn into dollars, which turn into 10s, which eventually can result in $358.25 of victory spoils from a local coinstar machine. I deeply regret not taking a picture of me lying on a bed, draped in my cloak of newly earned George Washington plunder. Sigh. The opportunities in life I have missed.

Plus Size fashion blog Disney Princess Jasmin For this Jasmin inspired looked I rocked some serious Amazon search magic. This turquoise jumpsuit is a nice alternative to the two piece Jasmin wears and looks less cartoon cosplay. Not that cosplay is bad,  it just has it’s time and place.  I also lock down Jasmin’s signature necklace– a score at just over $4. The remaining jewelery I used items I already had- a pair of my gold earring’s I inherited from my mother and a long gold necklace, because one necklace is not enough for a plus size princess. I finished the look with a chain head piece from divalicious jewelry and gold sandals from ideel.

Plus Size fashion blog Disney Princess JasminFor Jasmin’s royal make-up I added a very thick cat eye with an otherwise neutral eye. I added a soft pink lip to complement the existing look and not draw focus off the eyes. Jasmin’s signature hair is impossible for a white girl with stringy hair to rock. As an alternative, I curled my hair, using her trademark center part as a nod to the character’s normal hair style. The result is an updated and fresh princess look.

Now to find my street rat of a lover and take a ride on his magical carpet. However, let him have a dog instead of a monkey. Monkeys throw poo and I am not down with feces projectiles.

Up where they walk, up where they run, up where they stay all day in the sun.
Wandering free, wish I could be, part of that world

I think Ariel was talking about Hawaii in that song. Well that what I think when I’ve been singing it while prepping for this look. When I was a kid I got really into Beanie Babies. Like REALLY into them. I bought and sold those suckers like they were high ticket stocks. Buy! Buy! Sell! Sell! I actually made so much money that I was able to cash out early and pay for exchange trips to Brasil and Finland. I come from a long line of weirdly obsessed collectors. It’s a thing. My mom was way into collecting pretty much anything that was collectible. Our house was like a museum and spent most of my childhood fear I might break pretty much anything I touched. I suppose that one of the reasons I relate to Ariel so much. We’re both collectors. But the connection runs deeper, we’re both women forging our own paths against what our respective cultures tells us is status quo. Ariel is the Disney bad ass and I am here IRL blonde counterpart.

I took a little liberty with Ariel’s look because I feel like it’s what she would have wanted, if you know she was actually real. I am wearing a metallic “Shell Yeah” imprinted tank purchased from asos, paired with a sea foam green stretchy pencil skirt from Amazon. Underneath I am beach ready with an amazing jelly fish print bikini from Swimsuits for All. For accessories I rocked a metallic clam necklace I picked up here in Hawaii, a pair of super comfy sneaker style flats from Target’s collaboration with Sam & Libby, retro inspired white shades from Charlotte Russe, a five below beach tote and  a sea urchin looking hair accessory I purchased somewhere in the dark depths of the internet.

Plus Size Fashion Blog Little Mermaid Fatkini Beach Disney Outfit 3For make up I kept it super simple. I dotted the face with some sunscreen because  I am preventing a future of leather face.  I let my sunglasses carry my attitude and added a pop of pink on the lip to as a nod to Ariel’s rosy lips. For my hair I rocked her signature side hair part with straight hair. I used my “sea urchin” barrette to sweep my bangs out of my face and up my sex appeal. Turns out wearing a flower on the right side in Hawaii is a public announcement you are single and ready to mingle. So I wore it there, because I am.

Plus Size Disney Looks: Snow White

Plus Size Disney Looks: Snow White

Someday my prince will come. Someday I will find the one. Though he’s far away, he’ll find my love someday. Someday when my dreams come true….oh please make my dreams come true  plus size fashion blog plus size disney inspired looks snow white 2

Oh Snow White, we have SOOOOOO much in common. After what seems 3 months of tremendously awful dates, I needed a little something to give a little umph to my perspective. So today I am channeling my inner Snow White in hopes that maybe I’ll gnosh on a bad apple, make friends with a collection of little people with hygiene issues, and finally meet my one true love. Oh man, I hope this doesn’t mean he has to be into brutally murdering forest animals. But that’s a whole other story.

plus size fashion blog plus size disney inspired looks snow white 3For this plus size Snow White look, I paired a bright yellow pleated full skirt with a sassy royal blue flare crop top with a sweetheart neckline. Both items are from the eloquii. I styled the look with yellow transparent sandals, a red vintage bow tie and an potentially poison apple (it has been on my counter fall too long to still be edible). The look screams Snow White while also having a more modern yet 50s retro vibe that I adore.

Now hair and make up is really where I think I nailed it. Well at least that what I keep telling myself, because it took forever. It’s not easy task to make a long haired girl, look like she’s actually got a rockin’ curly bob. To achieve this I set my hair in teeny tiny foam rollers, heated them and let them set for several hours. Afterwards I finger combed my hair and pinned the blue tips underneath the rest of my hair- the texture of the curl helping to hold the bobby pins. For my make up I paired a red MAC lipstick, with my base foundation, rose cheek and a traditional pin-up eye. I also darkened my eyebrows to add to the vintage feel.

Plus Size Disney Looks: Belle from Beauty and the Beast

Plus Size Disney Looks: Belle from Beauty and the Beast

Today I kick off a little plus size fashion blog series I have been aching to do for months. For the next few weeks, I’ll be using Sundays to post Disney princess inspired casual looks. I love the idea of being inspired by the things that make you happy. And Disney? Well, it makes me pretty freaking giant ice cream sundae with caramel, fudge and peanut butter sauce on top elated.

Look there I go, a girl that is strange but special, a most peculiar mad’moiselle! It’s no pity nor a sin that I don’t quite fit in, cause I really am a funny girl- a beauty but a funny girl. I really am a funny girl. I’m BELLLLLLLE. [cut music, hold for applause]

Beauty and the beast was set in France and it felt the only place to really capture a truly “Belle” look. Don’t get me wrong; I am NOT flying to the Middle East for Jasmine or learning how to snorkel in a gown for Ariel. Hell no. Its just life gave me an opportunity and I went all carpe diem up in it.

I love Belle because she was like the original hipster-esque “be smart and make your own decisions “ cartoon idol. She turned down the hottest guy in town to instead end up with a bearded tortured artist type. She was a geek- a hard-core one- and wasn’t afraid to show it. If Belle were alive today, she’d definitely  go to Comic Con. I’d put money on it.

For this Belle inspired look I used a simple white t-shirt from Target to evoke the white sleeves and apron Belle wears up until her fancy sparkly sparkly golden dress moment. To add a modern touch to Belle’s classic blue pinafore I relied on this lovely Cherry Velvet Marcia dress that I sourced through Gwynnie Bee. I love how the cut outs add a modern touch to Belle’s classic country style. I chose a knotted vintage floral scarf to pay homage to the most adorable bookworm ever’s classic white statement bow. The look is finished with a pair of vintage gold and opal studs (thanks Mom!) and black flats purchased from hush puppies.

To mirror Belle’s hair I used side twists to create the volume and shape of her tresses in the original cartoon. I used a neutral palette of eye shadows starting first with MACs rice paper (my favorite base shadow ever), then highlighting the creases with a plum tinted brown and lastly shaping the corners with a rich coffee color. Belle had amazing eyebrows, so I made sure to darken and accent my own eyebrows. Lastly I chose a lovely plum matte lipstick from Wet n’ Wild to add nice touch of both strength and femininity.

Popping in Paris, Color Blocking through France

Popping in Paris, Color Blocking through France

Heading to Paris for work, I wanted to keep my wardrobe simple and my suitcase light. I have a little trick for when I am trying to go to the max with my wardrobe, but at the same time manage the increasingly smallness of my luggage. After years of living on the road and having to still work it like the sassy boss ass bitch I am, I found my balance by committing to the church of color poppin’. Color pops are the simplest form of color blocking and can do MIRACLES for your look. I mean you wear some hot pink pants and no one can ever pay attention that you forgot to do makeup, haven’t slept in 3 days and that there is a piece of bread from the sandwich you ate at 2 am more than little drunk most definitely stuck in your hair. Instead they just gush and co over your sassy fancy pants. Fashion witchcraft!!!! Here’s how I maximized the colors to keep me looking ace while traveling for work in Paris.

On Monday I rocked a pair of hot pink crops from Nordstrom with a black crepe top and patterned, but still neutral bomber. The key when wearing the world’s brightest pants and trying to be professional, is to keep the top simple. However if you aren’t at work, treat those pants as a neutral and go crazy. Just do you!

Tuesday I brought out my favorite chartreuse a-line skirt from Eloquii. I paired it with a check patterned top from Target. the key to this look is to make the top strong enough to support such an unusual and bold color. A plain black top could come off thoughtless and make the look seem as if it was “missing something.” Introducing the subtle pattern makes the style sing and the boys go ooh la la.

On Wednesday I rocked my most favorite clearance rack find- my neon orange moto jacket from target- over a sleek black dress and leggings. To pull this look off, I relied on accessories to tie the deeply contrasting colors. This Oliver Bonas necklace did a rad job of bringing together two cross spectrum colors and made the pairing almost seem obvious.

When you travel, bringing your entire bejeweled caboodle filled of sparkle is not always option. I instead opt for clothing with interesting necklines and pizazz to make the look a stunner even with out my preferred amount of bling. Here I used this amazing secretary pussy bow blouse from Monif C and add a little of snazziness with this cheap yet elegant looking Charlotte Russe tulle skirt. It looks sassy, classy, and leaves nobody thinking “where’s the glint, Glitter?”

Today, I faced the reality that I needed to be comfortable and kept my color blocking look real… real simple. I paired this t-shirt dress with my go to Lola Getts leggings and the bomber jacket. I like that even though I am wearing the same jacket as Monday, changing up the color blocking helps the jacket feel fresh and unique.

So ladies and likely gay gents, that’s how I use color blocking to make the most out of my travel wardrobe. It’s s simple and fun way to make travel clothes stand out with out having to over pack or haul every accessory you own (even though I always want to). So get out there and get get get it poppin’ with some fun colors. It is summer after all!
