My Dad is a napper. He needs his 2 hrs of midday down time to survive until his rebellious 10pm bedtime. So while home, I find myself confused as to how best use 2 hrs of silence. I by nature am not good at being quiet. So today during the allotted family siesta time, I gussied myself up and traipsed off into the woods behind my house. I have blogged a look in awhile ( oops!) and this seemed the perfect excuse. I played in these woods as a child, now I was playing in them as an adult. My mustard yellow crushed velvet Asos dress was an impulse buy that I will never regret. While oversized, it still manages to create a great shape. I’m not drowning in the dress, nor do I feel the need to belt it to give it some type of curve. It’s simply awesome. The shoes are by Sam Edelman– they make my favorite ballet flats- and I just purchased this pair today from the Nordstrom Rack. If you’ve never been to the Rack it is the place to get bigger sized shoes on a budget. Worn with my favorite pair of amazon tassel earrings , a few black beaded bracelets and bold berry colored lip– I am declaring myself the coolest nymph in the forest. Well, probably the only one, but who’s really counting?

In case you’ve missed it- tomorrow July 22 form 1-3, I am going to be at Modcloth Austin for a little meet and greet. Its my first ever shindig and I am super nervous no one will come. When I meet people I always tell them the same thing- being popular on the internet doesn’t really feel real. It’s so hard to comprehend that there are real people behind the computer and cellphones screens who I’ve been able to make laugh, smile or love more. So if you’re in Austin stop by and stay hi; let’s be real friends. This Modcloth dress is not horsing around. It’s a linen/ cotton mix and far more comfortable than I expected. These earrings are a $2 holler steal from amazon, as is the faux leather obi belt. The shoes are my favorite flats from Target that are no longer available, but I like this alternative.

Just a quick post to share with you this cute colorful and quirky look I rocked at Redbull + Sound on Sounds Rub-A-Dub Summer Swim Club pool party today. I love this look because it’s simple, but it screams I’m a little left of center and I like it.
Plus I spilled at least 3 drinks on it and no one was the wiser. So, I am pretty certain this dress has magical powers. Also, men of the world are missing out, because right now I 100% certain my skin tastes like the most delicious of redbull vodka cocktails.
This dress is a color-blocked maxi from Rebdolls. Open and honest, Rebdolls can be pretty hit and miss, but this pinky orange dream dress is and example of a bullseye hit. The jewelry is from my homegirl girl and Austin hit list indie jewelry designer, Nina Berenato. My shoes are orange and yellow ombre tevas, which are perfect for the summer- breathable and unusually comfortable.
This quirky little bag an tassel I discovered at Artist & Fleas during a recent trip to New York. I love how unusual it is and the rainbow zipper made it a must buy. The designer, Min & Mon, has a bevy of really different and totally practical bags, and Im kind of obsessed with them. You should 100% check them out.

As I look at my computer screen right now I have 21% battery left. I’ve decided that I’ve got just until that battery fades to finish this post. I guess that’s how I achieve work/life balance, by constantly some how managing to do the impossible in too little time on too little sleep. Man am I tired. It’s been a hard day, but the good kind where you know the exhaustion will pay off in progress. Data is passed out at my feet and making soft whimpers as I type. I have never been more jealous of him. First things first, since most of you will read this blog solely to get the details on these very fancy pants, I will indulge you sooner rather than later. These floral harem pants are from ASOS and the pink top is from Eloquii. I like it because it has a bow in the back, just like me-secretly girly. The gilded sandals are Crocs, because it’s hot and I just want to be comfortable. Lastly, the jewelry is a set I almost missed my flight home from Delhi, India for. Good accessories are important.
I wore these pants today, because some days we simply dress to make ourselves stronger. Today was one of those days. After a hellacious trip into NYC last night, I just wanted to wear something bright, as a symbol I would not back down if the day decided to get hard. No white flag would be waved. And I would not just seize the day; I would do it boldly and with as much confidence as one can wearing floral harem pants.
Today, I wanted to be seen.

This dress has been my go to vacation dress for years. I mean obviously a neon, yet some how not tacky, under the sea inspired wonder dress is timeless. I found this stunner on Amazon and from the moment we hook up it’s been love. This dress is a unicorn, somehow managing to be flattering, comfortable and cost under $20. Budget friendly babe-ly-ness? Sign me the eff up.This is not an advert, no one paid me to put this dress on blast. It’s just legitimately one of the best purchases I have made for my vacation wardrobe. And it’s been with me to to Bermuda, Hawaii, Jamaica, and now a cruise and survived. So not only is it amazing, it also holds up. Today is still looks as “fresh and clean clean” as the day I freed it from it cardboard cage and plastic straight jacket.
Now let’s talk about these shoes- GREEN METALLIC!!! You swab something in a little sparkle and suddenly you’ve got the comfort of pool slide hidden in the package of the next greatest trend. For a whopping $21, these slides have been my main jam this summer.
And of course no metallic under the sea boss lady queen look would be complete without a tiara. I found this rock crystal “mermaid crown” from favorite secret accessories store- Five Below. For $3, I was gone with the ocean flow fabulous. Five below is birck & Mortar only, so you’ll have to drop by a nearby location to snag one of these beauts.

So you’ve heard how some girls can go boy crazy? Well, in preparing for my cruise I went maxi crazy. I’ll level with you. I love a reason to shop… and my little ocean trek seemed the perfect reason to update my education on long beach friendly frocks.I scoured page upon page of flowing fashion and in doing so I noticed some major commonalities. Since sharing is caring, I’m spilling all the things I learned about this season’s sassiest maxi dress trends. It’s time to take fashion… TO THE MAX.
Kimono Realness
This plus size maxi style is perfect for the lady who wants a more modest, but still sizzling look. The kimono sleeves add a fresh take to the maxi, keeping your look fresh and far from dowdy. This Eloquii Kimono Sleeve Maxi is a great example, made of soft jersey and available in multiple colors.
Bright + Bare Shouldered
Bare shoulders and bold colors are continuing into the summer season. Choose a sassy print to create an even bigger statement, like this Michael Kors variation. Off the shoulder flounces add coverage for those uncomfortable baring their arms, while still allowing your shoulders to get their tan on. This mellow yellow treat is available at Macy’s.
Whimsical Pastels
Pastels can often be perceived as overly cutesy, but this season I am seeing all sorts of numbers that feel like Liza Frank grew up and started designing for adults. These whimsical styles are perfect for that sassy lady that’s not quite ready to give up her girly pastels, but also wants to feel grown up. This Rachel Roy dress at Nordstrom, was fashion love at first sight.
Boho Babe
It wouldn’t be summer with a little bohemian print in the mix. Look for all-over, colorful geometric prints that give the piece an earthy tribal feel. Tassel details and ties can add an extra punch while keeping the piece decidedly on trend. This plus size maxi from Target is every bohemian girls dream dress.
Scandinavian Floral
This summer’s florals remind me of when I lived in Scandinavia. The same blossoms that detail these dresses would decorate towels, linens and even furniture! I love the earthy traditional feeling these styles evoke. Paired with a breezy fit, these dress scream multi-cultural vacation chill. This example comes from JCPenney.
Comfy Crochet
Simple dresses are getting a handicraft touch with the incorporation of crotchet. The crochet touches elevate the dress by adding pattern and dimension to a basic silhouette. I love the simple yet casual elegance of this Avenue plus size maxi dress. The dress comes in three colors and I simply adore the peach shade.
Political Punch
Some people wear their heart on their sleeve, others where their political calls to action on their dress. This season brands have combined pop art designs with political calls to action. It’s a new way to make a fashion statement. I simply adore this plus size maxi from Modcloth for its ability to be as earth minded as it is tropically relevant.
Ruffled + Relaxed
Get in touch with you girly side by adding a little ruffle to your maxi. Front ruffles add a breezy feel to the bust while the maxi style clings every so slightly to your hips. This style is especially great for pear shapes. Made of a soft jersey fabric and and priced at under $20, this Forever21 maxi dress is too good a steal to pass up.
To Tie Dye For
Tie Dye has come back with a vengeance this season. The typical blue variations can be seen popping up left and right. However, to truly rock this trend, look for an unusual neck line and a unique color combination. This will make sure the dress feels decidedly now, rather than just another a 70s style rehash. I like this bold maxi dress from BooHoo.
Striped Surprise
Stripes have been everywhere this season and even I have fallen victim to their rebellious charms. After years of being told, ” no, no that’s not for you,” it seems like the plus community has raised a giant middle finger to the expected norms and begun creating amazing striped pieces. This stunning ASOS patchwork striped maxi dress takes the trend one step further by piecing rosy stripes into a truly eye catching piece.
Sea Glass Goddess
Lastly, there seems to be an infusion of washed out jewel tones. To me these dresses are like little reflections of water worn glass- stunning variations of their bright original colors. Washed out hues tend to scare most people because we don’t see them as often. But fear not! These colors have the magical ability to perfectly highlight tan skin. I like this example from Torrid; The simple neckline and accentuated waist line add structure and elegance to this beach glass beauty.
