As part of SimplyBe’s winter campaign, I had the opportunity to style this amazing sugar plum magic wonder dress. Strutting in this holiday frock creates such an amazing juxtaposition of feelings. On one hand I feel like all I need is a tiara and lots of jelly bracelets to fully live out all my pretty pretty princess dreams. On the other hand, I feel like just by wearing this I suddenly have lots and lots of money and lots and lots of scantily clad man servants to do my bidding. It’s powerful to feel, at the same time, like a rich sexy baroness and an innocent nubile princess. In short, this dress is my made of my dreams and I love it.
About this Dress
The bodice of this Simply Be holiday dress is this amazing minx colored velvet and the bottom is composed of two layers of corresponding soft mesh tulle (not the scratchy kind). The skirt is lined, which is nice, because I like to protect the nether regions from public appearances. I’m not famous enough where stuff like that is acceptable. I also love how the waist band of the dress has a delicate flourish of pleated tulle. It’s a well thought out detail.
SimplyBe is an international store so if you shop with them you’ll want to place orders by December 11th for standard delivery and December 14th for expedited shipping.
How I Styled This Look
Given the dress was such a stunner already, I tried to keep the finishing touches light. I added a black leather obi belt to cinch and emphasize my waist. I donned a pair of comfortable, but fancy wedges I’ve had in my closet for years. The added just the right amount of sparkle. To add a touch of luxe, I added a gorgeous gray faux fur stole (sadly all sold out, but I love this alternative), also snagged online at SimplyBe.
To top off the look, I added a rebellious necklace- something to make sure the final result wasn’t overly cutesy. The spiked necklace reminds people that while I am all luxe and adorable, I’m still a kick butt femme fatale who don’t take no crud from no one. The end result is the perfect girls night out look.

Ugly Christmas sweater parties are my jam and fervently believe everyone should own at least one in their wardrobe. Personally, I have several, because I love Christmas and I am hoarder. Just over here speaking my truth from beneath a pile of festive sweaters and whimsical novelty socks.
My favorite place to get said sweaters is Blizzard Bay -the creme de la creme novelty sweater shop on the fancy internet site of Amazon. I discovered them last year after falling down a massive google shopping black hole, and now I find myself a devotee. I purchased sweaters for myself and half my family from their shop. I wasn’t paid to say this; when you put a themed light up sweater in front of me, my heart just skips a little glittery beat.
And since my whole family had sweaters, Data needed to have one too. You can’t see it super well, put his little sweater has a green sparkly tree on it and matches mama. It’s like Mother Boy, Christmas edition. I found this pupperific sweater in Target, while I was trying to avoid filling my cart with all the glittering festive things. This gem slipped through the cracks and this photo makes it all worth while. Data looks so dapper. I’m such a proud mama. Proud enough to order customized Yankee candles with this picture and mail them to all the people I want to impress.
It’s Friday and I’m not feeling that inspired. I don’t have any wise words of wisdom to share or any funny anecdotes to tell. Basically, I’m a bit boring, but luckily I have a cute outfit to wear and a vacation to plan, so that’s something, right?
See I usually forget to plan vacations. I like working. That maybe weird for some of you to understand, but I’m one of those rare souls that actually loves their job. So the end of year has rolled around, I haven’t used my vacation and I’m scrambling to plan something last minute. I am certain there are worse problems to have. So today I as I scramble to find a budget holiday trip (pray for a miracle folks) , I am remaining festive in my holiday decorations inspired look.
Shop this look
I love this look because it’s perfect for a party, but maintains a fierce commitment to the holidays. You can create your own holiday decor inspired look with the items below.
The sweatshirt has taught me that you can look like a plus size queen while be comfortable AF. So I’ve decided to dedicate today to threads that scream ” I’m so excited for all that is Christmas!!” while at the same time being the perfect thing for that Mindy Project binge watching session you have planned for the evening with your best friend, wine.
Perfectly Festive Pajamas
Sleep with yuletide cheer, people. Also, Ive included the pajamas I wore in my recent Sunday Spiel video which I can personally testify are wonder of comfort. Also, lets not even pretend here, Target is KILLING the theme pajamas game. For reals.
Not the amazing “making it rein” seems to be sold out online. Lame. But not lame? These amazing alternatives. It’s like an ugly sweater, but more comfortable and easier to asleep drunk in.
Ah the laziest way to say Merry Christmas. Be like that cool girl in high school, wearing a t–shirt and some how still looking better than everyone else. Apply that roll on lip gloss girl and own the room.
I want all of you to know I made this backdrop. You know casually taping (because the backs weren’t sticky enough) 400 some bows to a random wall in Austin, Texas to make plus size fashion Christmas magic. Actually I can’t take all the credit. I was helped through the whole process by my amazing photographer, Chelsea. She also “back seat bowed me”, ensuring the colors and patterns were evenly spaced and aesthetically pleasing. I will never look at the placement of a peppermint striped bow so casually again.
Christmas Renegades
It took 400 bows, two rolls of tape, 2 hours, a never ending playlist of yuletide hits and a wall we did not own to complete this whimsical design. Hell yes, we were yule time bandits, holiday hooligans, Christmas renegades! Well, as rebellious as two girls covering the world in pretty bows can be. We were inspired by a photo background that blogger, Splendid Rags created and offered our own softer take on the idea. The end result rivaled an Anthrolopogie store window, which is pretty much every slightly quirky hipster girl’s dream.
Christmas Grafitti
The best part about this is that not one passer by seemed concerned in our endeavor to deck the walls with boughs of bows. Most stopped to comment on how pretty it was. We joked that must have walked away thinking, “Man, I love living in Austin. People do the coolest things here!” because we were doing a cool thing like cool people in a cool city do. Maybe we should do this cool thing more, make it some sort of new festive graffiti. Like yarn bombing, but for the holidays… Christmas bombing! I like it.
We’ve Been Scrooged
Sadly within 24 hours the grounds crew for the building we assembled this master piece on, Scrooged us. I woke up the next day to find that some Grinch has removed every single trace of our festive decorating. Not a single bow in sight. No more sparkle. No more glee. Just a plain white, Christmas-less wall.Weep womp.
